About the Author

Author Richard Boyer, retired educator from Illinois, has experienced a new profession since retiring–seasonal interpretative park ranger, park guide, and education technician for the National Park Service. For sixteen years he has worked seasonally at Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado; John Muir National Historic Site in California; Lincoln Home National Historic Site in Illinois; Redwood National and State Parks in California; and Point Reyes National Seashore in California. These rewarding and inspirational positions have led him to write about his experiences and some of the “nuts and bolts” of getting a job with the NPS.
